Panhandle graduates 18 from Certified Public Manager program

Eighteen professionals from Walton, Okaloosa, and Escambia Counties recently walked the stage at Florida State University to receive their credentials as Certified Public Managers (CPM). The graduates were participants in the first locally offered CPM class.

The program is offered through the Center for Public Management at Florida State University’s Reubin O’D. Askew School of Public Administration and Policy.  A nationally-recognized program for training and developing public managers and supervisors, CPM is currently offered in 38 states and by the federal government. The primary goals are to professionalize public management and improve organizational efficiency and effectiveness.

The eight courses of the program focus on the fundamentals of leadership and management, improving people skills, team leadership, improving organizational effectiveness, as well as improving a manager’s understanding of complex organizations, large systems, and policy formation.

Participants in this class included employees from Community Bank, Escambia County Public Safety, Okaloosa County Board of County Commissioners, Walton County Board of County Commissioners, Walton County Clerk of Court, Walton County Sheriff’s Office, Walton County Tax Collector’s Office, and the Walton County Tourist Development Council.

An additional 30 public servants are participating in the second CPM course and are on track to graduate from the program next July. A third class is slated to begin after the first of the year.
