At the Feb. 19 school board meeting, Amy Wells, Walton County Take Stock in Children Program director, recognized the St. Joe Community Foundation’s donation of $9,200 to purchase two 2-year scholarships for the Walton County Take Stock in Children Scholarship Program. She presented Janet Greeno, executive assistant, St. Joe Community Foundation, with pictures of current Take Stock activities as well as a goody bag of Take Stock memorabilia.
Applications for scholarships are now being taken for Walton School District students who are currently in the sixth grade.
Information about the Take Stock in Children Scholarship Program can be found at www.takestockinchildren.org.
One of the keys to the success of the Take Stock in Children program is that each student is matched with a mentor. A mentor is a caring, compassionate adult who chooses to devote their time to a young person, offering them support, guidance, and encouragement. If you can donate one hour per week, you can change a life by helping a child build a solid foundation of values, establish goals, improve their academic and life skills, while developing their self-esteem and confidence.
