“It's a privilege to be asked back to cook there again. I think our menu is an exciting representation of Northwest Florida.”
South Walton Chef Jim Shirley is in New York City this week preparing a “Taste of Seaside” for the prestigious James Beard Dinner, according to a release from the Seaside Community Development Corporation.
He and his team will cook for guests and media at the James Beard House today at 6 p.m. CST.
Shirley will be "representing the Merchants of Seaside while highlighting Northwest Florida’s culinary strengths."
The event will be featured live from the James Beard kitchen from 5-9 p.m. at https://livestream.com/jamesbeardfoundation/KitchenCam.
South Walton restaurants Great Southern Café, 45 Central and The Bay will be showing the live feed as well.
"The menu is reflective of Northwest Florida fare, culinary innovation, and an agricultural edge which includes dishes from smoked snapper throat gougères to a Walton pecan baklava."
Chef Shirley now calls Seaside his home after developing restaurants in Pensacola. Seaside Co-founder Robert Davis recruited Shirley to develop "a renewed farm-to-table focus."
This is Chef Shirley’s fifth time to be invited as a guest chef at the Beard House, the release said.
“I’m excited for an opportunity to represent Seaside and Walton County in New York City,” said Chef Shirley.
