It's time to pull out your finest shades of purple, green and gold, as the Village of Baytowne Wharf transforms into Mardi Gras central.

"It's such a fun spectacle," said Lanier Motes, events manager for the Village of Baytowne Wharf. "If you can't go to New Orleans for Mardi Gras, you can always come to Baytowne and have a great time."

As one of the most anticipated events of the year, Baytowne's Mardi Gras celebration is fun for all ages. The Village Brass Band will provide the toe-tapping Mardi Gras soundtrack.

The celebration gets underway at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 2, with the 11th Annual Mardi Gras Dog Parade. It's time for fido to take center stage as furry friends of all shapes and sizes stroll through the Village decked out in their finest duds. This year's theme is Pups & Pearls: Walk the Red Carpet. A $5-$10 donation will be collected from participants, which will benefit Alaqua Animal Refuge.

So put your imagination to the test as you craft the perfect costume for your four-legged friend.

"We're going to have a red carpet for the dogs to walk on when they walk across the stage," Motes told The Sun.

The good times keep rolling at 5 p.m. March 4 as the 12th Annual Baytowne Bash Fat Tuesday parade.
