Marvel of Flight

The DeFuniak Springs Municipal Airport will host the First Fly-In — Marvel of Flight from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. June 11. Attractions include a car show, remote controlled airplanes, helicopter rides, bi plane rides, aircraft displays, and more.

 

Digital Graffiti

For the fourth year, Alys Beach allows innovative digital works of art to be projected on the walls and architecture during the Digital Graffiti Festival, a juried digital art competition and exhibition, on June 11. Tickets can be purchased for $20 at www.digitalgraffiti.com through May 15. Tickets will be $25 online May 16 through June 10.  The day of the festival, tickets will be $35, purchasable at the gate.

 

West Indies Markets

Browse this popular, open-air market and discover booths filled with paintings, pottery, jewelry, stained glass, wood carvings and other handcrafted items from 11 a.m.-6 p.m., June 11 and 12 and July 9 and 10 at Rosemary Beach.

 

Topsail tours

Topsail Hill Preserve State Park in Santa Rosa Beach will hold the following tours. A $6 park entrance fee is required, except for Breakfast with a Ranger. Outside tours are canceled during severe weather. For information, call 267-8330.

•June 11: Have Breakfast with a Ranger at 9 a.m. To cover the cost of food, please bring $4, which goes to the Friends of Topsail Hill Preserve State Park to enhance the park, or bring your own breakfast.

•June 11: Learn about the beaches and costal dune systems and the mysteries of the “Mountains of Florida” at 1:30 p.m. 

•June 13: Learn how to identify, collect, clean and preserve seashells at 1:30 p.m.

•June 18: Learn about the forces of nature that shape the shorelines during a hike on the beaches at 9:30 a.m. 

•June 20: Meet some of the common critters that call Topsail Hill home at 1:30 p.m. 

•June 27:  Learn about the forces of nature that shape the shorelines at 4:30 p.m. 

 

Seaside Rep

The Seaside Repertory Theatre presents “How I Became a Pirate” at 7 p.m. Tuesdays through Aug. 2 at WaterColor in the Marina Park Amphitheatre. Other scheduled programs include:

•The Commedia Pinocchio: Through Aug. 10 at 6 p.m. Wednesdays at Rosemary Beach in North Barrett Square.

•Alice's Adventures in Wonderland: Through Aug. 11 at 6 p.m. Thursdays in at the Alys Beach Amphitheatre.

•Around the World in 80 Days: June 16-July 30 at 7:30 p.m. $25.

•The Turn of the Screw: Oct. 6-22 at 7:30 p.m. $25.

•Every Christmas Story Ever Told (And Then Some!): Nov. 25-Dec. 30 at 7:30 p.m. $25.

 

Emerald Coast Pipes & Drums

All performing and student bagpipers, former and current marching band snare, tenor, and bass drummers are welcome to join the Emerald Coast Pipes & Drums in Okaloosa, Walton and Santa Rosa Counties. The group meets at 6 p.m. Thursdays at First United Methodist Church in Niceville, 214 Partin Drive, for beginner bagpiping classes and 6:30 p.m. for rehearsals for performing players. Amateur Radio Club

The Chautauqua Amateur Radio Club of DeFuniak Springs/Walton County meets at 6:30 p.m. the last Tuesday of every month at McLean's Restaurant near I10 and 331 South. Rotary Club of South Walton

A new Society of Human Resource Management Chapter in Walton County will meet at 8 a.m. the first Thursday of the month at TJ’s Table in Freeport. Northwest Florida State College

Performances at NWFSC include the following. Purchase tickets from the Mattie Kelly Arts Center Box Office at 729-6000 or at www.mattiekellyartscenter.org. The Box Office is open 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday to Friday for in person and phone sales. Tickets purchased at the door prior are same price as advance tickets. NWF State College students may obtain one free admission per ID, in person from the Box Office.

•June 12-July 24: Two new exhibitions, Maja Godlewska and Jacqueline Bishop, Losing Ground: Imaginary Landscapes. An opening reception will be held at 2 p.m. June 12. 

•July 20-23: The summer musical production of the Humanities, Fine & Performing Arts Division of Northwest Florida State College presents Mark Twain’s classic, Big River, in the mainstage theater of the college’s Mattie Kelly Arts Center in Niceville. Tickets are $25/adult and $20/youth, ages 18 and younger.

 

Knot Kamp

Yards N Yarn in Freeport will host summer three-day knot sessions for any age from 10 a.m.-noon, 1-3 p.m. and 3-5 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays beginning June 7. Cost is $35 and includes project and items. Call 880-6404.

 

Music theory classes

Lisa Cyr will teach classes in reading music and understanding basic music theory from 6-7 p.m. Mondays, June 13, 27 and July 11, 18 and 25, at the Coastal Branch Library. Students ages 13 and older, from beginner to advanced, are encouraged to attend these free classes. A small supply list is recommended for the classes. Magical Mondays

Join magician Rick Moore from 7-9 p.m. Mondays through Aug. 8 on the Events Plaza at the Village of Baytowne Wharf for an evening full of laughs and illusions.

 

Mini Gras & Boomin' Tuesdays

An evening of fun and merriment with special children’s activities takes place from 7 to 10 p.m. Tuesdays through Aug. 9 in the Events Plaza at the Village of Baytowne Wharf. Each week, the Village will crown a king and queen to throw moonpies and candy to the crowd. Fireworks begin at 9:15 p.m. over the lagoon. Event is free. Enjoy the Bouncy Castle and other inflatables with purchase of a $10 wristband.

 

Raising Healthy Eaters

The University of Florida/IFAS Extension in Okaloosa & Walton Counties will offer Raising Healthy Eaters class from 12-1:30 p.m. June 14 at 70 Logan lane in Santa Rosa Beach. Participants will learn types and amounts of food to feed children, taming mealtime battles, how to encourage kids to try new foods and make healthy food fun. The cost is $5/person, which will cover the cost of materials and food. Pre-registration requested at 689-5850 or 892-8172. 

 

Storytelling

A pair of Rep Theatre actors will create an exciting story during improv storytelling at 10 a.m. June 14, 17, 21, 24 and 28 on the lawn at the Town Hall in Rosemary Beach. No two stories will be the same.

The Village of Baytowne Wharf presents the Wednesday Night Concert Series from 7-9 p.m. during the summer in the Events Plaza. Call 267-8186. Scheduled performers include:

Purses with a Purpose

Shelter House domestic violence center presents Purses with a Purpose from 6 -8 p.m. June 17 at Silver Sands Factory Stores. The event is a purse auction where new and lightly used designer purses are donated to be auctioned off with all profits benefiting Shelter House. A private preview sale from 6-8 p.m. June 16 will allow attendees to pay $5, purchase purses the day before the event and enjoy food and wine provided by Carrabba’s Italian Grill. To purchase tickets for the preview sale, call 243-1201.

 

Artist talk

The Rosemary Beach Foundation hosts a contemporary artist talk with Allison Wickey (2011 Artist of the Year, Beaches of South Walton), Stefan Daiberl and Shantell Martin at 7:30 p.m. June 17 in Town Hall at Rosemary Beach. The featured artists will share sources of inspiration and approaches to their creative process.
$10 donation suggested.

 

Starlight Ballet

The Northwest Florida Ballet and guest dancers from around the country present the Starlight Ballet at 7:30 p.m. June 19 on St. Augustine Green in Rosemary Beach. On-lawn seating at the free event.
