Three new art galleries open over 4th of July weekend
While other businesses struggle to make ends meet, three new art galleries opened locally in one weekend.
The Ogden Museum of Southern Art opened at WaterColor in the old Cerulean's location. World Six Gallery opened at Rosemary Beach. And the Museum of Wonder opened at Carillon Beach.
Another new opening is the C. Marie's candy store at Seaside in front of Fired Up. The store is making many of its candy items. Owners are the Turner family. Mother Christine Turner and Cathy Turner, the daughter, are in charge of operations. Call C. Marie's at (850) 231-0330 or e-mail timetopublish@yahoo.com.
Artist of the Year Donna Burgess is hosting all former titleholders in an exhibit across from her gallery at the Market Shops at Sandestin. The show is up through the month of July. It consists of artwork by Donna, Susan Lucas, Dorothy Starbuck, Justin Gaffrey, Phil Kiser and Bill Stephenson. Each artist's work is different from the others. The group had a fun opening June 24 with lots of folks attending, including Jackie Lynch, Betty Cork, A.J. and Roy Kleindolph, Myra Williams, Ginny Haygood, Susie Munz more arts folks.
In Seaside, Eileen West Gallery is hosting a solo exhibit by Beau Bradbury through July 30.
Holly Speight had a fun time judging the annual 4th of July parade at Seaside. She said it is her favorite holiday.
After the parade, Jessica Simpson and Tony Romo were reportedly seen eating lunch at Seaside's Taco Bar (yes, THAT Jessica Simpson). They spent the holiday on 30A. My spy said she is very pretty and tiny. Tony, on the other hand, well, looks like a handsome professional football player. The tabloids have said they broke up. I don't think so!
Shortly after the Jessica/Tony spotting, there was another - Kyle and Christopher Massey from Zoey 101 and Cory in the House. The preteens at Seaside were going crazy.
On the food scene, I hear the barbecue at Redfish Village on July 3 was awesome! Hog Wild BBQ of Memphis was the provider.
Brenda Darr and Fire restaurant in Grayton are celebrating their one-year anniversary tomorrow. Glad you're here, Brenda and crew!
La Botana in Seagrove Beach is giving free Spanish lessons with their wine. An interesting combination.
Sharon Jenkins is acting as official organizer for a trip to Panama City Beach to see the FSU Circus by the Sea. It runs from now until the first week in August. FSU has its own college circus and is the site of the first triple somersault. This is its first summer in our area. If anyone would like to get together a group and go, with a possible side trip along the way to Pier Park, e-mail Sharon at seanole@embarqmail.com. Tickets are $20.
Happy belated birthday wishes go out to Brad Speight of Albert F.'s in Seaside. His birthday was July 6. Hope it was a good one.
Happy birthday today to Bill Leonhardt and tomorrow to county lady Sara Commander.
Monday to Helen Gerberding, sax man Michael J. Thomas and The Sun's Lori Ceier.
Tuesday to Bud ‘n Alley's Dave Rauschkolb and Sandestin's Tony Lange.
Wednesday to Seagrove's Greg Bahr.
And Thursday to beach songster Gene Mitchell and L2's Jeff Lewis.
