Redfish Village plans Villages Around the World summer events

Area resorts and businesses are gearing up for their busiest season of the year - tourist season -, which officially begins Memorial Day Weekend.

The fight is on for each to lure customers.

Merchants at Redfish Village have come up with a unique promotion, which will begin May 30 and continue throughout the summer.

Every Friday night, Redfish Village will offer guests the opportunity to travel to villages around the world via a different theme. Different signature tapas, décor, vendors and events will be planned from various places throughout the world, allowing a "travel around the world" experience. Caterers and local vendors will provide the themed tapas.

The events will be held on the Redfish Village green behind the merchants' shops. The event is free and open to the public.

"We're looking for sponsors," said event designer Hillary Fosdyck. "It's to get people in to see what Redfish is about."

Fosdyck is also designing a Nature Adventure Day at Camp WaterColor, which will take place May 25 from 3 - 7 p.m. on the Camp WaterColor Green. This event is open to the public and costs $25 per person. Activities will include a rock-climbing wall, crab casting, rain tent, adventure pictures and framing, zoo mobile, coastal nature lesson, reptile roundup, touch tank, live butterfly display, airbrush tattoos, Nonie's Ark Animal Encounters and Gyotaku.

Music will be by the Conch Republic and will include a Memorial Day grill out. Food, sodas and water are included in the cost and a cash bar is available.

On July 5, WaterSound will host a Walk-n-Wag parade. This event is free and open to the public. Proceeds benefit Alaqua Animal Refuge.

For more information about any of these events call Fosdyck at (850) 491-0212.
