Free food for families with children

Food for Tots will distribute 200 boxes of food for families in need at 9 a.m. at World Evangelism Outreach Church, 1701 U. S. 90 East in DeFuniak Springs. Anyone needing food for their family or know of families needing food, contact 850-892-9362 as soon as possible. Vouchers will be needed to receive food as supply is limited. Must be present on distribution day to receive food.

 

Florida Trail Association

Bring your canoe or kayak for a float trip on Juniper Creek in Santa Rosa County at 8 a.m. Call 484-9111.

 

Food donations

Shelter House is collecting donations of unopened, canned and non-perishable food items that summer tourists may have left over after their stay on the Emerald Coast. Food donations will be used to feed the women and children who stay in the emergency shelter. Donations may be dropped off at 102 Buck Drive in Fort Walton Beach or 78 Lynn Drive in Santa Rosa Beach.

 

Art in Public Places

The works of artist Racquel Morgan will be presented by The Walton County Tourist Development Council and Friends of Coastal Branch Library during the month of July. Call 267-1216.

 

Pottery workshop

The Cultural Arts Association of Walton County will present a workshop led by local potter Debby Orr from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Santa Rosa Pottery, 462 Don Bishop Road in Santa Rosa Beach. All materials and tools will be available at the studio; however, you might benefit from having your own spray water bottle, an old towel, a sharpened pencil, plus six or seven "texture" items that you might have on hand and find interesting (shells, coins, leaves, sticks, old jewelry, buttons, etc.). Participants will make a clay vase using the slab form of construction along with other hand-building techniques. Cost is $60 plus $25 for supplies. Call 622-5970 to reserve a space.

Radio broadcast

Alan Hunter, one of the original VJs on MTV, will broadcast his Sirius radio show from Rosemary Beach the week of July 25 to help promote the area and tell the world that our beaches are still beautiful and white.

Groovin’ On The Green

The Carillon Beach Institute presents a free concert with Return To Zero from 7 to 9 p.m. July 26 on the Village Green in Carillon Beach. Bring chairs or blankets, a cooler and snacks. Call 234-7819.

 

Stories by the Sea
The Seaside Repertory Theatre presents one-of-a-kind storytelling experiences for children of all ages at 4 p.m. Monday through Fridays in the Lyceum Gateway Arch in Central Square.

Le Grand Cirque

Featuring more than 40 champion acrobats and performers from Brazil, Canada, Russia, Mongolia, Europe and China, Le Grand Cirque at Grand Boulevard in Miramar Beach will continue throughout the summer. Rosemary Beach

A free Children’s Theatre presentation, “Shakespeare’s The Tempest,” will be presented by The Rep Theatre at 6:30 p.m. on North Barrett Square. Call 278-2900.

 

Oil Spill Economic Relief Workshop

The Walton County Economic Development Alliance will host an Oil Spill Economic Relief Workshop from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Northwest Florida State College South Walton Center. Representatives from various organizations will be present to discuss BP claims, SBA Economic Injury Disaster Loans, Emergency Bridge Loans, documentation and legal questions. Seaside Summer Concert Series
The Seaside Summer Concert Series presents Ryan Kinder at 7 p.m. at Seaside Amphitheater.

 

Music in Grand Park

Local musician and performer Cheryl Jones plays from 5 to 8 p.m. in Grand Park at Grand Boulevard at the entrance to Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort. Concert is free and open to the public. Bring a chair or blanket.

 

JobsPlus Mobile One-top

The JobsPlus Mobile One-Stop will be at the Walton Area Chamber of Commerce, 63 South Centre Trail in Santa Rosa Beach, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Mobile One-Stop will continue deployments to the Chamber on the fourth Thursday of each month. A candidate forum for circuit judge candidates will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. July 29 at the Coastal Branch Library on Hwy. 331 South. The event is free.

Christmas in July

The DeFuniak Springs Area Council will host “Christmas in July” from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Chautauqua Hall of Brotherhood, 95 Circle Drive in DeFuniak Springs. A donation of a new toy will grant you event entry, a photo with a suntanned Santa and inclusion in holiday inspired games and activities. Lunch is free; however, donations will be accepted and appreciated. Toys collected will be given to the Walton County Sheriff department's Toy Drive and stuffed toys will be donated to the DeFuniak Springs Police Department. Topsail tour

Join the Emerald Coast Wildlife Refuge and learn about the fascinating critters in the park and in Okaloosa and Walton County as the Emerald Coast Wildlife Refuge presents Owls and other Critters at 11:30 a.m. at Topsail Hill Preserve State Park in Santa Rosa Beach.
