BLUE MOUNTAIN BEACH — South Walton Fire District crews were on scene Monday morning at a house fire located at Blue Mountain Beach Road and County Road 83.
Sammy Sanchez, public information officer for SWFD, said the department was called to the scene around 9:15 a.m. The family inside the home was able to make it out alive and one patient was transported for observation.
Sanchez said he believed the home was a total loss. A Jeep parked in the driveway of the home as well as an adjacent home were also damaged.
Neil Blappert, who lives nearby the fire, said the owner of the home lives in Atlanta and that the visitors were unaware of the fire until they were awakened by neighbors.
"They had no time to grab belongings," he said. "Neighbors tried to get the fire out by putting water on it."
As firefighters were on scene a crowd was gathered around, Blappert said Walton County Sheriff's Office assisted with crowd control.
"There was a lot of movement," he added.
Sanchez said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
