DeFUNIAK SPRINGS — A 26-year-old man is in jail after a group of children jumped on him to get him to leave a home where he allegedly was beating a woman.

According to a report from the Walton County Sheriff’s Office, Dustin James Cordle Jr. was at a home in DeFuniak Springs on Saturday when he began to choke a woman as she was holding her 9-month-old son on her porch. Cordle pushed the victim down at one point and the infant rolled out of her arms.

Another child picked the infant up and Cordle continued to beat the woman, the report said. Children stood in between the woman and Cordle, who “came running at them and swung over the children as he hit her in the face again.”

The children finally jumped on Cordle and he left the home.

Cordle later told authorities he had been “upset about things that happened in the past” and lost his temper.

Cordle was charged with one count of child abuse without great bodily harm and one count of aggravated battery causing bodily harm. Both charges are felonies. He was being held in the Walton County Jail on $10,000 bond.
