Alvin's Island, an iconic beach store in this area for decades, tore down one of its stores last week, but no worries as it was torn down to be replaced by a larger one.
The new Alvin's Island will be constructed in the same spot at Holiday Beachside Center at the corner of Scenic Gulf Drive and Holiday Road, replacing 10,000-square feet building that was built in the late 1980s.
"The new one will be similar but larger and a much nicer store," said Walton County Planning Director Mac Carpenter.
The new construction will consist of two units at 10,000 and 8,000 square feet respectively, as well as parking and other supporting infrastructure on 1.909 acres.
The new store will have the same owner, Dror Levy, as the old.
The project was originally submitted to Walton County Planning Department in 2015 and gained approval from the Board of County Commissioners last year.
