DEFUNIAK SPRINGS — A 48-year-old man is behind bars after he allegedly beat a woman in the head and stole a tablet out of her purse.

According to the DeFuniak Springs Police Department, officers responded to the area of South 18th Street in reference to a robbery Sunday morning. A woman told authorities a man she knew as “Zuke,” later identified as Andy Williams, had driven up behind her while she was walking down the road. Williams allegedly got out of his vehicle and jumped on the victim, striking her in the head multiple times.

After the assault, he took a computer tablet from the victim’s purse and fled the area. Officers observed the suspect’s vehicle in the area and conducted a traffic stop.
