DEFUNIAK SPRINGS – An 11-year-old child who came to school with visible bruising told the school resource officer that a 42-year-old man in her home had woken her up in the early morning hours by yanking her hair.

He then started slapping her face. She said she hid under the bed until he calmed down, according to his Walton County Sheriff’s Office arrest report.

She said the man was angry because she had messed up the bathroom with her face paints.

She added that she didn’t tell her mom because she didn’t want to tear up the family.

The deputy took photographs of her injuries and had her examined at the Children’s Advocacy Center, the report said.

She told authorities there that he’d hit her so hard her nose had bled.

Both of her eyes were bruised.

When authorities went to her house to talk to her mom, the suspect was there and could be heard loudly talking on his cell phone about how he’d only popped her on the mouth.

He blamed law enforcement and the Department of Children and Families for breaking up his family.

He denied causing her injuries. He was charged with felony child abuse.
