WALTON COUNTY — A beachgoer rescued a fawn on Sunday after it took a dip in the rough Gulf of Mexico water.

Red flags were posted on the South Walton Beach where the incident occurred, according to the Walton County Sheriff's Office.

Deputy Brandon Coone wrapped up the "terrified and exhausted deer" and laid it in his truck as he waited for officials from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to arrive.

FWC relocated the fawn to dryer land, according to the Sheriff's Office.

"We love happy endings!" was posted on Sunday with a photo of the fawn on the Sheriff's Office Facebook page.

"Deputies and FWC are trained to handle these types of scenarios," the post said. "We do not encourage the general public to approach wildlife or endanger themselves in any way."
