CHELCO presented funds to the Walton County School District recently for teachers’ grants, which will be used to enrich science, technology, engineering or math (STEM) topics taught to public school children.

On Oct. 24, CHELCO presented the $12,000 investment to the Walton Education Foundation, which administrates the grant program.

Public school teachers throughout Walton County apply for the annual grant by proposing a project that will benefit and engage their students. Walton Education Foundation evaluates the proposals and selects the recipients. In the past, CHELCO grants have funded about 12 proposals each school year, positively affecting hundreds of students annually.

CHELCO utilizes a matching grant program offered by the state to increase the funds available. CHELCO invested $6,000, which is matched through a state incentive doubling the impact to the local community.
