The EES Veterans Day assembly takes place Thursday, with music teacher Eddie Steadman leading the fourth-grade in a patriotic salute.

Col. Paul Moga, commander of the 33rd Fighter Wing, will provide the keynote speech, and the Twin Cities Elks Lodge 2747 provides flags for each student.

Silver Sands School invites veterans to join the students in a special lunch in honor of Veterans Day.

Lunch will be served from 11 a.m.-12:15 p.m. in the school’s cafeteria. Check in at the front office before proceeding into the school.

South Walton High School will honor veterans with a breakfast from 8:30-10 a.m. Thursday. If you wish to honor a veteran with the breakfast, contact the school office at 622-5020.

At 11 a.m. Saturday, the Veterans Tribute Tower Committee will host a ceremony at Beal Memorial Cemetery in Fort Walton Beach, with various community leaders speaking at the event.

Before the ceremony, the Fort Walton Beach High School JROTC will place more than 1,600 flags and render Placement Honors at the final resting places of local veterans.

Antioch Elementary School’s Scholastic Book Fair has been scheduled for Nov. 9-17. The fair runs from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on all school days until the final day, when the fair concludes at noon.

Book fair shopping can also be done online through Nov. 18 by visiting www.scholastic.com/fair. Proceeds benefit the Crestview school.

Mossy Head School third-grade teacher Alicia Cook taught the phases of the moon by using Oreo cookies.

Her students took apart the chocolate sides and used spoons to scoop and shape the moon phases. Certainly, none of the students tasted the scooped-out center during the lesson.
