One of the great hubs of NASCAR racing takes its residence in Talladega, Alabama. As the greats pull onto the track, millions of people take a timeout to see who will make it to the finish line. Sunday, Oct. 15, these multitudes also regarded local scouts from Troop 525 and Pack 25 of Defuniak Springs. In the spring, the young ones held the flag during the Star Spangled Banner. For this cool autumn race several stepped up to lead the Pledge of Allegiance.

The scouts and their families enjoyed a weekend of camping in the invigorating Alabama fall just outside the track. While many visitors to the track enjoyed vendors and their visit to the International Motorsports Hall of Fame, the exciting opportunities didn’t stop there. The Superspeedway offered a movie night, showing "Cars" just behind the dome of the International Motorsports Hall of Fame. Country music artist Colt Ford hosted an infield concert with Tim Dugger and DJ Michaelis. On a weekend dedicated to Dale Earnhardt Jr., scouts attended the Fred’s 250 Powered by Coca-Cola on Saturday and the Alabama 500 on Sunday. Many attended a driver meet and greet where they received selfies and autographs from Carl Edwards, Joey Logano, Austin Dillon and David Ragan.

Scouts representing the Panhandle by leading the Pledge of Allegiance were Jackson Howell, Antonio Derycke, Shadey Bolouri, Shane Register, Ethan Ludlow, Noah Ludlow and Shane Odom from Pack 25 and Logan Odom and Aaron Wilmoth from Troop 525.
