MOSSY HEAD — Assan Deandre Rogers faces a charge of aggravated battery after he allegedly shot a man Wednesday in what was described as a strange and perhaps random encounter with the victim.
Rogers was walking up Windflower Road near Mossy Head carrying an “AR variant” weapon when he met up with another man at 365 Windflower Road, according to Walton County Sheriff Michael Adkinson.
“We’re not even sure if they knew each other,” Adkinson said.
Words were exchanged and Rogers “fired off several rounds” as he apparently was leaving the scene, Adkinson said.
“A couple of rounds hit the victim,” Adkinson said.
A warrant was issued following the incident and Rogers was arrested, according to Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Corey Dobridnia.
Adkinson said the charge was aggravated battery rather than attempted murder because Rogers allegedly fired the gun as he left the scene.
The victim is still hospitalized, Dobridnia said. The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are pending.
