MIRAMAR BEACH — A man was arrested for stealing the car of a man he had met at a bar the night before.
According to a Walton County Sheriff’s Office arrest report, on Dec. 31 a man noticed his pickup truck was missing from the driveway of his friend’s home. He told deputies he was in a band that had played at a local bar the night before and the band had invited a person they had met, a 21-year-old Birmingham, Alabama, man, back to their house.
At the residence there was a confrontation between the man and the bandmates due to them catching the man stealing money. After the man left, the victim noticed his truck keys were missing and made a report with the Sheriff’s Office. Several hours later the victim noticed his truck was gone, too.
The suspect was located later that afternoon at a Sandestin hotel. He told deputies he “woke up in the bushes” with the victim’s truck keys in his back pocket and used the keys to access the truck and drive to the hotel. The vehicle was found backed into a parking space at the hotel.
The man was arrested and charged with grand theft, a felony.
