LAKELAND – Publix Super Markets Inc. recently announced it is recalling certain Mary B’s brand biscuit products because of potential Listeria contamination, according to a company statement.

The products from Pensacola-based Hom/Ade Foods Inc. have a code 355 located immediately following the Manufacturer Item Number and carry “Best If Used By” dates before Sept. 23 with the letter “M.” They carry names including “buttermilk value pack biscuits,” “buttermilk tea biscuits” and “Southernmade value pack biscuits.”

No illnesses have been reported. The Listeria bacteria can cause serious, sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy individuals may suffer short-term symptoms, including fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.
