SANTA ROSA BEACH — A man was arrested on battery charges after charging into the home he shared with his wife and beating her in her bedroom.

The family’s attorney called 911 on Jan. 4 saying the wife told him her husband was being physical with her and had threatened to kill her, according to a report from the Walton County Sheriff’s Office. When deputies arrived, the man answered the door and the deputies noticed injuries to the man’s knuckles that appeared to be “fresh and bloody.”

The man was ordered out of the house and deputies entered. One deputy called out to see if anyone else was inside the home, at which point he heard a faint female voice saying, “I’m here, please help me.’”

The deputy made his way to an upstairs bedroom where he found the man’s wife “hunched over on the bed and holding the back of her head.” The said her husband had just arrived home with their daughter after leaving overnight because of an argument. She had been in bed and was awakened up by the man breaking down the interior garage door.

He then made his way to her bedroom door and broke it as well. The couple briefly continued their argument from the previous night before the man grabbed the woman by the waist and threw her to the ground, causing her head to hit the wall behind her.

The woman said she was in fear for her life and authorities noted in the report she “appeared to still be very emotionally shaken and dazed.” EMS was called to the home and treated the woman on scene.

In speaking with authorities, the man denied any physical altercation occurred but admitted to a verbal argument over “her alleged addiction to alcohol and prescription medications.” He also admitted to breaking down the garage door but said the bedroom door had already been removed.

However, the deputy was able to locate the door, which was lying next to the house, and it had been severely broken and had a clear “punch” hole with two smeared dots of fresh blood consistent with bloody knuckles on it. The deputy also noticed fresh blood on the back door’s exterior glass.

The man was arrested and charged with misdemeanor battery.
