Vandals used ice pick to deflate tires on ice cream truck and the man's minivan.
SANTA ROSA BEACH — A 71-year-old ice cream truck driver is hoping authorities can find whoever stabbed his truck tires.
Paul McCarty discovered the vandalism to his truck Tuesday night and reported it to the Walton County Sheriff's Office the next morning. He's been driving an ice cream truck in the area for 17 years and is known locally as the "Ice Cream Man."
The tires on his minivan had also been stabbed. On Friday, he put up posters asking for help in finding the vandals.
"I'm 71 and I just feel like a victim when things happen," he said. "I don't want people to get away with things. Some people say I'm old and I see 71-year-old people who are old, but I'm not one of them."
McCarty lives in an RV park and admits that his neighborhood has more than its share of crime.
He said it looked like all of his tires had been stabbed with an ice pick.
"I'm not going to let anybody feel (less safe)," he said. "I can't let myself think that way."
The Walton County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident.
