Sometimes, being No. 2 isn't so bad.

According to a study from the travel website HomeToGo, Destin earned the second-highest spot on the list of most popular spring break destinations in Florida. The top spot went to Panama City Beach. Pensacola Beach was ranked No. 15.

The study monitored a six-week period from the beginning of March to mid-April.

Spring break can sometimes attract the "wrong kind of headlines," according to the study.

"Spring Break has become a byword for hedonism," the article said. "Instead of focusing on the exuberant few who concern communities in Florida, we wanted to find out how much Florida's economy benefits from the yearly influx of Spring Break vacationers of all ages staying in vacation rentals."

The study shows that spring break guests spend the bulk of their budget — 32 percent — on accommodations. According to HomeToGo data, the average price of a HomeToGo listing in Destin per person per night is $39.43. Food and drink amounts to 23 percent of a visitor's budget, followed by entertainment (19 percent) and transportation (10 percent).
