Local golfers and businesses “teed up” to help fight child hunger at the seventh annual Food For Thought Outreach Charity Golf Tournament presented by 30A Cottages & Concierge on April 12.

Santa Rosa Golf and Beach Club hosted the charity tournament for the fifth consecutive year. The local non-profit celebrated a record-breaking year raising more than $17,250, which will directly go toward feeding kids in need across the Okaloosa and Walton counties.

“Each year gets bigger and better, and this year was our best yet,” said Tiffanie Nelson, founder and executive director of Food For Thought Outreach. “Our golfers love coming back for this golf tournament year after year and we couldn’t be happier working with Carter Murchison and his team at Santa Rosa Golf & Beach Club and Vue on 30A. This year, we will be able to use these funds in our ‘Sponsor a School’ initiative and sponsor six of our 31 schools through the end of the school year and the rest of the funds will support our snack programs and summer service needs.”

Food For Thought provides backpacks filled with healthy, easy to prepare food for students who are dependent on free or reduced school meals. Food For Thought has been working to fight child hunger since 2010, and currently serves 31 schools in Walton and Okaloosa counties, providing backpacks for more than 2,900 students each week. By bridging the gap of missed meals during weekends and holiday breaks, their goal is to support a child’s development and educational experience.
