Team Okaloosa competed at the Commissioner’s Academic Challenge, a state academic team tournament, earlier in April.

“They finished as state runner-up for Division II, which was a huge accomplishment for the team,” said Coach Carol Bernich. She was joined in the coaching duties by Dr. Mike Mosley and Julie Mosley.

Team members included Riley Beaulieu, Alexsander Jones, Mason Newman, Elijah Suh, Ryan Erickson, Joshua Mills, Liam Ordner, Caroline Seeling and Collin McGovern.

As this academic year reaches the point in which seniors look toward graduation, the underclassmen look toward the next academic year.

The Fort Walton Beach High School STARS dance team has done just that by electing its 2018-19 officers: captains Alexis Bosnake and Erin Winstead; 1st Lt. Kameron Kerns; 2nd Lt. Amber Lett; and Jr. Lt. Dani McWhorter.

Retired and former Florosa Elementary School educators and employees may want to mark their calendars for the May 10 evening celebration at the school in honor of its 50th anniversary. The reception begins at 5 p.m.

The Youth Village seeks donations of electric piano keyboards for its summer camp program that begins May 29.

Piano lessons will become part of its summer curriculum for grades kindergarten through eighth.

The Spanish Honors Society and Spanish Club of Rocky Bayou Christian School collected items and raised awareness for the Emerald Coast Advocacy Center. David Denbow and Beberlyn Martinez serve as presidents of the organizations.

In academic team news, the school’s high school team finished 39th out of 153 participating high school teams in the nation, and it took second out of six Florida high schools in the spring 3-2-1 Online Academic Challenge Competition held earlier this month.
