On April 21, 43 volunteers from Okaloosa and Walton counties, as well as from within the park’s campground, gathered at the beach in Topsail Hill Preserve State Park for a Beach Cleanup. Within two hours the volunteers removed 15 pounds of debris from the beach preventing it from reaching the Gulf of Mexico just in time for sea turtle and shorebird nesting seasons.

The Beach Cleanup is one of two events the park has to celebrate Earth Day. The second event is the Earth Day Festival the last Saturday of April.

The next beach cleanup at the park with be a part of International Coastal Cleanup Day on Sept. 15 from 9:15-11:30 a.m. If you can’t make this organized Beach Cleanup you can still help by picking up trash each time you visit the beach. Every bit helps.
