The Northwest Florida State College Madrigal Singers were recently nominated for the A Cappella Music Awards’ Collegiate Group of the Year.
More than 46,000 votes were submitted in the nomination process, resulting in 80 finalists representing countries from all over the world.
“We are so proud of the Madrigal Singers for receiving this deserving honor,” said college President Devin Stephenson. “They are an asset to our college and community, and we are thrilled their hard work and dedication is being recognized internationally.”
The winners will be announced at the A Cappella Music Awards May 19 in Gallatin, Tennessee.
NWF State College Madrigal Singers is a mixed choir whose members are selected by audition. The group specializes in combined a cappella music from the Renaissance Madrigal to modern vocal jazz. Madrigal Singers perform throughout the year at various events including campus and community events, holiday performances with the Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra, and annual choir concerts.
Members of the Madrigals include Cameron Harker and Melody Murray of Destin and Alexis Guessford of Santa Rosa Beach.
Other groups nominated in the Collegiate Group of the Year category are Gestalt, University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida; Northwestern Undertones, Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois; The Buffalo Chips, The State University of New York; and Voices of Lee, Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee.
