SANTA ROSA BEACH — A woman was arrested after making herself an uninvited guest in a stranger’s home.

Deputies responded to a home on May 18 after a neighbor called the homeowner and said a person they didn’t recognize was in the back yard on a white bicycle. The homeowner called police and said he was out of town and nobody should be in his home.

Deputies with the Walton County Sheriff’s Office arrived and made contact with the person in the home, a 28-year-old Santa Rosa Beach woman, according to an arrest report. She said she had been there about four hours and believed the home belonged to a person who had given her permission to stay there.

She said the person who gave her permission had given her directions to the home as well as a description of it, and told her the back door was unlocked.

She said she was unaware the home apparently did not belong to the person who gave her the directions.

She said she had already used the washing machine, sink, shower, window air conditioner and lights in the home, as well as taken food and beverages from the kitchen.

She was arrested and charged with burglary of an unoccupied dwelling and petit theft.
