DEFUNIAK SPRINGS – A woman who woke her husband up to ask if he knew where her car radio was ended up calling for help after he attacked her.
The victim told Walton County Sheriff’s Office deputies that her 30-year-old husband repeatedly punched her with a closed fist in the face, according to his arrest report.
She tried to leave but he grabbed her wrist, leaving a bruise. He then put his hands around her neck and cut off her airflow, according to his arrest report.
She tried to leave, but he told her she had nowhere to go.
She then told him she didn’t love him, at which point he grabbed her keys and sat in her car to keep her from leaving. She told deputies he wouldn’t even allow her to go to a neighbor’s house to use the phone.
When his boss showed up, the suspect began acting “civilized” and allowed her to leave.
The deputy saw bruises on the victim’s face, neck and wrist, the report said.
He interviewed the suspect’s mother who was at the home at the time of the altercation. She said she’d heard them arguing, but that nothing physical occurred that she saw, the report said.
The suspect told the deputy that they’d been arguing, but that she’d gotten the bruises from having sex several times, the reports said. He also claimed she’d choked him.
He was charged with battery by strangulation, false imprisonment and domestic battery.
He was also on felony probation, which his additional charges violated.
