DEFUNIAK SPRINGS — Deputies arrested a man for domestic violence after spotting several bruises on his girlfriend’s arm.
According to a report from the Walton County Sheriff’s Office, on June 6 deputies responded to a home in reference to a woman who was threatening suicide. When they arrived they found the woman sitting on the front porch with bruises all over her arms. When asked what had happened, she told the officers there was “no point in telling me because we wouldn’t do anything about it anyways.”
Deputies interviewed the woman’s mother, who lived at the same house as her and her boyfriend. She said she witnessed an altercation two days prior and observed her daughter lying on the hallway floor with her boyfriend standing over her. He told the mother that she punched him in the nose, but the mother didn’t see any blood or markings on him. She did, however, see bruises on her daughter’s arms.
Deputies interviewed the boyfriend, who said that a few days earlier he and the woman had been fighting, “as usual,” when she spat in his face and came at him. The man said he stuck his hands up and put them on her chest to stop her from coming at him.
The deputies said the bruises on her arms weren’t consistent with his story.
The 41-year-old man was arrested and charged with misdemeanor battery.
