SANTA ROSA BEACH — A 66-year-old man was arrested after hitting a parked car and leaving the scene.

A Walton County sheriff’s deputy responded to a residence in reference to a hit-and-run. A witness provided a photo of the license plate, vehicle description and description of the driver. While the deputy was getting a witness statement, he was diverted to a call about an intoxicated man at the restaurant next door threatening people with a knife and saying he had a gun.

When the deputy arrived, he saw a vehicle that matched the description of the one involved in the hit and run and had the same license plate number. The man sitting in the driver’s seat was detained since he was suspected of making threats with weapons.

The deputy noticed a fresh gouge on the rear bumper of the vehicle, consistent with the damage on the other vehicle.

The witness later arrived on scene to finish her statement and positively identified the man as the one who hit her vehicle. The deputy later discovered he was driving with a revoked license.

The man was charged with knowingly driving while his license was suspended and leaving the scene of a crash involving an unattended vehicle without leaving information.
