So how are we doing? The Destin Log and Walton Sun, that is.
On Tuesday evening I went to the Destin Library to talk to readers about what they like about the papers, what we could do better and if there were any stories we haven't told yet that you would like us to. I posted about it on the Facebook pages to both publications to let our readers know I was going to do this, and we included it in the calendar of events in Saturday's Log.
Despite that, no one showed up.
Some could take that to mean the readers think we're doing amazing and just want us to keep doing what we're doing.
My guess is people are busy, and whether you saw that I was doing this or not, it's sometimes hard to find the time to go somewhere to meet someone one.
I still want to hear from you.
My contact information is below. If you would like to talk about how The Log and The Sun are doing, please reach out to me. If you have story ideas for us, I would love to hear them.
The Destin Log and The Walton Sun are both very much tied to their communities. They're your newspapers. If you have suggestions on things we can do to improve them, I want to hear from you, either in person or by phone or email.
Since I was at the library, I decided to walk around and talk to patrons there about the papers, and I received some good feedback.
Some people said they didn't read The Log or The Sun, and that there really wasn't anything we could add or change to get them to read it. The people I talked to who did read the one or both of the papers were happy with them. They thought we did a good job of representing the Destin and Walton County communities.
They did have some suggestions on things we could do better, though. One of the ladies I talked to likes it when we feature new businesses in the paper, but was frustrated that we don't always tell you where the business is located. That's a very valid criticism. So from now on when we right about a new business, we'll be sure to include its address and contact information either in the story or in a separate fact box.
Although no one showed up at the library Tuesday specifically to see me, I'm plan to have more of these meet-ups in the future in which I come to you in the community so we can talk about the papers. I hope these become a regular event, even monthly if possible. My next one will probably be somewhere in Walton County because the first one was in Destin. If your business would like to host one of these events, please reach out to me. And keep an eye on the Facebook pages of The Log and The Sun, as well as our community calendars for my next meet-and-greet. I hope to see you there.
