PANAMA CITY BEACH — Wednesday mornings are, apparently, for whale sharks based on a video taken by Whitfield Roberts, who captured the 20-foot long shark on video while taking his motorized kayak for a spin in Philips Inlet.
“Look at that thing, isn’t it magnificent,” Roberts says during the video while getting up close to the fish.
Roberts said he took the video about 100 yards out from the beach.
Whale sharks, with their distinctive speckled markings and ginormous size, are spotted every few years in Bay County. Several have been spotted this year near the beach, but before then, the last sightings were in 2016.
