DeFUNIAK SPRINGS — A 27-year-old man was arrested for dealing in stolen property when a deputy found a stolen boat in his truck.

A Walton County sheriff’s deputy located a man in possession of a stolen boat in the Walmart parking lot. The boat was in the man’s truck bed and matched the description of the one reported stolen.

The top half of the boat where the identification stickers had been was pointed over, but the bottom was the original color. The man said he bought the boat for $100 from the side of the road, but thought something was odd about it.

He agreed to provide a sworn statement admitting to purchasing the boat. He then changed his story between saying that his friend bought the boat and was keeping it at his place, but then said he was buying it from his friend.

The deputy said the man should have known the boat was stolen from the missing identification and the paint to cover up half the boat.
