DeFUNIAK SPRINGS — The Walton County Sheriff’s Office is trying to locate the owner of a dog that was found with a carabiner lodged in its neck.

Walton County Animal Control responded to a call for an injured dog on Dogwood Road near DeFuniak Springs. The dog was found under a trailer by the owner of the home, and it would growl at the caller when he approached it.

When Animal Control officers arrived, they noticed the dog, described as a yellow Lab, with a carabiner through the skin on its neck with a chain hanging from it. A carabiner is an oval metal ring with a snap hook used in mountain climbing.

The dog was delivered to Alaqua Animal Refuge, where Dr. Amy Williams sedated it and removed the carabiner and chain from its neck and cleaned the wound.

The Lab is staying at Alaqua while it recovers.
