The Seaside Neighborhood School 5k and Half Marathon this weekend will produce more than race winners. The race will also produce a wedding.
Micah Reagan and Cary Morgan met through their running club in their hometown of Birmingham, Ala., where Reagan works as a nurse at UAB and Morgan is a physical therapist.
Their friends in the running club thought they would be perfect for each other and encouraged them to meet. They finally did in October 2011 and discovered their friends were right — they came from similar backgrounds, had experienced similar things, and had a lot in common.
Last October Morgan proposed while he was running through the streets of Birmingham via his GPS watch, which was plugged into his computer.
"Running has been so much a part of our meeting, our engagement, and our lives, that we thought, why not have a running wedding?" said Reagan.
The couple is running in the SNS Half Marathon on Sunday. Reagan will run the race in a wedding dress made specifically for her and this event. And when the race is over, the couple plans to walk down to the beach and exchange vows surrounded by family and friends who accompanied them from Birmingham.
"I have a couple of friends who were in the Miss Alabama pageant and I asked their seamstress if she could make something suitable for me, and she did! The dress is short, like a tennis dress, and it has a detachable train that I will attach after the race for the wedding," said Reagan.
Neither have run in the SNS race before.
This will be a second marriage for both.
"We are both very grateful that God has blessed us and given us both a second chance at happiness," said Reagan.
