Lane closures continue on Escambia Bay bridges
CHIPLEY – Motorists traveling over the east- and west-bound Interstate 10 (I-10) Bridges may experience intermittent lane closures next week while crews continue to pave lanes and complete final traffic configurations. Additionally, Scenic Highway on- and off-ramps may be closed briefly as crews work to pave and stripe the roads. Lane closures on either east- or west-bound bridge may occur at any time – but not at the same time – for extended periods throughout the week from Monday, March 17, through Saturday, March 22.
Motorists should expect frequent changes to the traffic pattern as crews work to complete the final traffic configuration. Motorists are advised to consider alternate routes and patience will be appreciated. Alternate routes include exiting I-10 at US 90 or at Avalon Boulevard. More information and a map of these routes can be found on the project’s Web site at www.escambiabaybridge.com.
Motorists are reminded to obey the posted 40 mph speed limit and to use caution when traveling through the work zone.
Work activities will not take place on Easter Sunday, March 23. Both bridges (east- and westbound) will remain open during the holiday.
The reconstruction of the I-10 bridges is being completed by the design-build team of contractors Tidewater Skanska of Virginia Beach, Va.; Flatiron Constructors of Longmont, Colo.; and design firm PB Americas, Inc., of Tampa.
