TDC reopens Miramar Beach restrooms and 20 parking spaces
The restrooms at the Miramar Beach regional public access, which were damaged by the storms several years ago, were reopened last week after dune restoration was completed in March.
“We had to wait for the completion of the beach restoration project last year as well as permitting from DEP to begin rebuilding the dunes and to complete repairs for the restroom,” said Dave Sell, TDC beach maintenance manager. “We worked diligently and are pleased to reopen these restrooms in time for the summer season.”
All the necessary repairs to the electrical and plumbing were completed and the restrooms were cleaned and refreshed with new hardware. The beach crew built a temporary deck with a shower that connects to the bath house. In addition, the TDC installed 1,100 linear feet of sand fence to protect the new dune. Twenty parking spaces were reopened on the old parking deck to help alleviate some of the parking challenges along this stretch of Scenic Gulf Drive.
The TDC has received the permit for rebuilding the parking deck and will have it ready for bid in July. Construction for the new parking lot is scheduled to begin September 2008.
