More than two decades ago, Chick Huettel was serving in the Memphis Police Reserves when he joined forces with two others in the unit to produce the public TV show "Behind the Badge."

"It was an innovative show at the time," said Huettel. "We showed where crimes were taking place in town and what to be looking for."

The show was produced at Memphis State University and appeared on Public TV.

Huettel said it was so well received that the show earned a public service award in Tennessee.

The half-hour show ran four or five years, seven days a week.

When Huettel moved to Santa Rosa Beach, he joined the sheriff's auxiliary posse.

At this point in time, however, Huettel said he is getting too old to chase people, but thought another "Behind the Gold Badge" show would be helpful in this growing community. He approached 30A TV owner Paul Vizard eight months ago with the idea, then got the blessing of the sheriff and "Behind the Gold Star" was launched.
