It wasn't just the time change that brought on the Monday Blues for the thousands of spring breakers packed into Destin.

This week's start of the spring break season brought cold, heavy winds and rain, but that didn't stop young tourists from walking barefoot down Scenic Hwy. 98.

"I thought it would be cold, but not this cold," said Oakleigh Burkett bundled in a pink jacket and shorts on the sidewalk in front of Whale’s Tail.

Burkett, a high school student from Memphis , and her group of friends were all walking along the strip with their arms folded tight against them trying to stay warm. The group still has a couple of days to work on their spring break goal — getting a tan, but until the weather is better, they'll stick to indoor activities.

"Shop 'till you drop," Burkett said with a smile.

On the beach, the older crowd has other ways to keep warm.

Sarah Schlishting, a senior at Texas Christian University , and her group of friends were not ready to turn off their rap music even as the sky got darker.
