LETTER: If our children are the future let's act like it
Children are our future. I think the Walton County School Board and more importantly the superintendent need to be reminded of this.
The overwelming concern with Walton schools is the budget. Experienced teachers were terminated in favor of the youngest, most inexperienced teachers available.
I understand that the tax revenues have evaporated but someone should have anticipated that the boom in South Walton wasn't going to last forever. The ones really paying the price of this are the children of Walton County. I've been to every school board meeting since June and have come to realize that Florida statute gives school districts and the superintendent control over the district with no oversight.
The Florida DOE is no help. It's simply a do-nothing agency populated by a bunch of paper-shuffling pinheads. State Sen. Don Gaetz shouldn’t be sponsoring an amendment to amend an amendment that he doesn't like. This just makes a mockery of state government. Our legislators should sponsor legislation to remove earmarks on lottery money instead.
There are many ways to cut costs without getting rid of good teachers.
