Last month, Walton County’s Cultural Arts Alliance said “thank you” to its volunteers and supporters with a party at Hibiscus House’s Backyard of Love.

However, one of the organization’s major supporters could not be present.

The absence of Christine Burroughs did not negate her being recognized by CAA’s executive director and board president as they announced the establishing of the Christine Burroughs Volunteer of the Year Award.

“Every year we depend on around 500 volunteers, without whom we would not be able to put on festivals such as ArtsQuest and Flutterby,” said CAA Executive Director Jennifer Steele. “We have wanted to establish an award to honor our volunteers and decided there could be no better person to name it after than Christine.”

Burroughs was involved in the CAA for more than a decade and in the 3 Arts Alliance prior to that.

“She was the best we ever had,” said Steele. “She did everything from putting together butterfly wings for the Flutterby Festival, to serving as president of CAA, and was a good ambassador in the community for CAA.”

Burroughs recently moved to North Carolina to be near family.
