Healthmart Regional Medical Center Auxiliary contributes to Walton County "Santa Patrol"
A group of dedicated volunteers are working to ensure that every child in Walton County will have a toy under the tree on Christmas morning. The Healthmart Regional Medical Center Auxiliary has been holding book and jewelry sales in order to raise money for the Walton County Sheriff’s Office “Santa Patrol”.
Lt. Farris says “a rising unemployment rate during the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression of the 1930’s, it will be an extremely tough Holiday Season for hundreds of families in Walton County”.
Healthmart Auxiliary member Mary Helen Connell says “the volunteers have been donating to the Sheriff’s Office Santa Patrol for the last four or five years, and it’s extremely rewarding to help the children who are less fortunate”. In addition, the Healthmart Regional Medical Center Auxiliary contributes several thousand dollars each year to college scholarships for those area students enrolled in health related fields.
Lt. Farris says “with so many parents having to cut back on household expenses, the children are often the ones who suffer the most”. The veteran lawman urges folks to remember those who are less fortunate as we get closer to Christmas”.
