Lawmen: Freeport man breaks man's teeth with bat, steals pills (MUGS)
MIRAMAR BEACH – Four people were arrested Monday after one of them hit another man with a baseball bat and stole a bottle of pills.
A man told deputies he was hanging out at 47-year-old Kelli Kay Ford’s home on Overlook Drive Saturday night when 20-year-old Christopher Joel Bates, of Freeport, confronted him with a baseball bat, swung the bat at his mouth and knocked out several teeth, according to the Walton County Sheriff’s Office. Bates swiped the man’s wallet and a bottle of pills.
The Sheriff’s Office did not reveal what type of pills were stolen, but said they were a controlled substance.
Bates told lawmen that the man he allegedly attacked stole money from his vehicle, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release. Bates said Ford and 26-year-old Amber Marie Colbeth, of Santa Rosa Beach, told him when the man was leaving Ford’s home so he could rob him as he left. Bates also said 20-year-old Dennis Dean Mueller of Freeport helped him carry out the robbery.
Bates was charged with aggravated battery, robbery using a deadly weapon and possession of a controlled substance without a prescription. Mueller was charged with robbery using a deadly weapon and possession of a controlled substance without a prescription.
Ford and Colbeth were also charged with robbery using a deadly weapon.
