Now hiring at South Walton Walmart
New store won't be a Supercenter but will have a liquor store
Construction continues on the 78,290-square-foot Walmart on U.S. Highway 98 in Santa Rosa Beach with a grand opening date tentatively set for June 15.
Mac Carpenter with Walton County Planning and Development Services said the store will not be a Supercenter, and will not have automotive service or a garden center. They will, however, have a liquor store.
The county is in the final stages of sign permitting with the retail giant, which is setting up shop on the northwest corner of U.S. Highway 98 and West Hewett Road. There will be a large sign across the building façade and a smaller sign for the liquor store, which will be separate from the main building as per state law.
Carpenter said Walmart won’t be able to convert it into a Supercenter later.
“They have maxed out the building footprint,” he said. “It’s as big as it’s gonna get. It’s a small footprint as far as Walmart designs go.”
Carpenter added that Walmart has set up a hiring center across the street from the Walmart location next to the Donut Hole restaurant.
Walmart is hiring approximately 215 associates to work full and part time at the new location.
The hiring center is accepting applications from 8 a.m.-6 p.m., Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, and 8 a.m. until noon on Saturday. Interested applicants can apply online at walmartstores.com/careers/7745.aspx.
