Bass anglers raise funds for Children in Crisis

Bass anglers from the community came out in force to have fun and support Children in Crisis at the American General Life & Accident Insurance Company 1st Annual CIC Bass Tournament. The charity tournament kicked off at beautiful Hammock Bay in Freeport and raised over $30,000 in prizes, in-kind donations and sponsorships. All proceeds will help feed, clothe and care for the abused, neglected and abandoned children of our community.

The end-of-day fish weigh-in was the highlight of the event and prizes were awarded to the top seven anglers. The team of Johnnie Kirkland and Harold Godwin won the $3,000 top prize with a total weight of 10.94 pounds for five fish. David Howard won the “Big Fish” prize with a weight of almost five pounds.

“CIC sends a big thanks to our major sponsors; AGLA, Quality Imports, Hammock Bay, Cumulus Broadcasting and all the many volunteers and participants,” said Ken Hair, executive director for Children in Crisis. "Together, we have made a difference in the life of a child!”

According Vern Ward, tournament manager, “The event was a total success and the participants had a great time. We’re very glad to help Children in Crisis and the abused and neglected children.”

Children in Crisis is a non-profit community charity of caring people providing a solution to the critical shortage of foster homes in Okaloosa, Walton, Santa Rosa and Escambia counties. To learn more, visit www.childrenincrisisfl.org, or call 850-864-4242.
