FHP report: Pedestrian hit on Hwy. 331 critically injured

A 19-year-old man was critically injured Wednesday night when he was hit by a vehicle while walking on U.S. Highway 331.

Freeport resident James L. Allen was walking with the flow of traffic in the northbound lane of Hwy. 331 when an oncoming driver failed to see him in he roadway, according to the Florida Highway Patrol press release.

Allen was hit with the front of 37-year-old Ronald Shider’s 2005 Chevrolet Impala causing $3,500 in damage to the vehicle. Allen was thrown into the east shoulder of the roadway just north of where he was hit.

Allen was taken to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola in critical condition.

FHP is investigating the crash.
