Fishing the Walton way

When it comes to fishing in Walton County , they have a different way of doing things — but it works.

And everything worked out just right for the "three amigos" from Arizona who were fishing aboard Dead Fish charters with Capt. Larry Pentel on Cinco de Mayo.

What makes fishing in South Walton unique, is the boats launch right off the beach at Grayton behind the Red Bar  restaurant. No docks or booking booths. Just the captain with the nose of his boat pushed up on the beach for you to jump aboard.

On Monday, three guys from Arizona , Randy Alfredo, Ryan Semro and Brandon Grieser, aka the “shark slayer” had a big morning on the water.

The three guys had their mind set that they wanted to catch a shark.

However, before they went looking for one, Capt. Pentel made sure they had plenty to eat. So fishing about eight miles out, they pulled in 30 vermillion snapper — also known as mingo or beeliners.

After they had caught their share of vermillion it was off to find a shark.
