BRUCE — A flood warning continues for the Choctawhatchee River near Bruce, according to the National Weather Service.

At 7:01 a.m. Wednesday, the river was at 17.8 feet, or 4.8 feet above flood stage.

The river is expected to crest at 18.8 feet tonight, the National Weather Service reported.

A shelter at Bruce United Methodist Church remained open Wednesday after the Walton County Sheriff’s Office issued a voluntary evacuation Tuesday for residents in low-lying areas of County Road 181C to the mouth of the Choctawhatchee River.

No one was at the shelter at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Several roads and bridges remained closed Wednesday in Walton, Okaloosa and Santa Rosa counties.
