Monday's Update

County Highway 30A has been closed to thru traffic in the area between County Highway 83 and County Highway 283. This closure is in response to a culvert failure at Big Redfish Lake.  This closure effects thru traffic only. Public Works crews are onsite and will continue to monitor the road.  Once the water recedes, crews will assess the damage and give a report on repair.  This section of the road will be closed to through traffic until further notice.

Indian Creek Ranch Road is closed at the bridge. This closure only effects thru traffic.

Due to rainfall totals over the weekend we are experiencing localized flooding in a number of areas. Several roads throughout the county have standing water located on or in portions of the road. Most of these roads are passable however we request that the public use extreme caution when traveling in these areas.

Public Works crews are working to alleviate as many issues as possible at this time.

Walton County has also closed the pedestrian bridge that spans the same location.  The closure has come in an abundance of caution and in concern for safety due to the flood waters and damage in the surrounding area.  The closure of the pedestrian bridge affects not only low speed vehicles, but walkers and bikers as well.

The bridge will remain closed until damage assessments are complete in the area and repair assessments are completed by the Public Works department.  Once complete, the closure will be reassessed.

The original Sunday story.

The Walton County Sheriff’s Office along with the Sheriff’s Office Posse has been working around the clock due to the significant rainfall which has caused flooding and road closures. County Road 30A in the area of Big Red Fish Lake has severe road damage. The piping under the ground that regulates the water flow on the north and south side are failing. County crews are working to help alleviate the water from further cresting over this portion of 30A.

The last quarter mile of North Bishop is closed to traffic. Some homes in the residential area are taking on water as cars were driving through. Please avoid this area.

Additionally, the bridge on Indian Creek Ranch Road is washing out at each end of the bridge. On the south end of the bridge the watger has lifted up part of the guard rail and bridge. Barricades have been set up and we are asking the public to not remove the barricades. It is important that all barricades must stay in place as this is a public safety issue.

Walton County schools will remain open on Monday, said Superintendent Carlene Anderson.

Officials will work bus routes around any roads that are blocked due to flooding, she said.

"We’re having school," she said. "Buses will be running and we’ll be working around any road issues we have at this time."

She asked that parents and students be prepared for possible delays during morning and afternoon bus runs.
